College Recruiting

Why Compete for CSC?

Our Gym Roadmap
  • We Have Our Priorities In Order. Gymnastics & Dance is our passion. We know what it takes to become a successful athlete, and that commitment and hard work are required by all. But we also value kids and where competition fits in their lives. For 99% of athletes, family and school comes before their sport. And for the vast majority of young, amateur athletes, success and greatness shouldn’t be defined by a place on the award stand. Rather, it’s about doing your absolute best to have the athletic experiences you value most. We train accordingly.
  • Choose Your Commitment Level. Our girls team athletes can choose to compete USA Gymnastics Development Program Levels 3 -10, or NGA as Silver-Diamond. We train girls teams at all our gymnastics locations. We also compete in Dance, based out of our Cambrianna and Race St. locations.
  • Let’s Hear It For The Boys. We run one of the most successful boys gymnastics programs in the Bay Area. Development Program Levels 3-10, Future Stars, and we have an NGA team at Race St.
  • Life Skills. Our team training is designed for our athletes to enjoy competitive level gymnastics or dance and be successful doing it. But we also focus on developing important life skills: teamwork, confidence, self-control, advocating for yourself, leadership, discipline, perseverance (“grit”), and healthy habits. At the end of the journey, these will be the most important benefits our athletes acquire.
  • Positive Coaching. CSC was the first gymnastics club in the country to partner with Positive Coaching Alliance , since 2006. We encourage our coaches to be “Double Goal” certified, and we offer internal workshops for our team parents. We’ve also partnered with both Lisa Mitzel and Dr. Alison Arnold for mental training and mental health. In 2022 we added ‘Zen Tiger Mind’ Mental Power Stations into our gyms and did a full set of trainings for athletes and coaches.

    • USA Gymnastics & SafeSport The U.S. Center for SafeSport was created by the United States Olympic Committee in March 2017 as a wholly independent body to investigate allegations of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, grooming, and child abuse within all Olympic National Governing Bodies. USA Gymnastics handles reporting for allegations of bullying, hazing, physical misconduct, and emotional misconduct. Our competitive coaches are trained and certified by USA Gymnastics & SafeSport. We fully support the investigation of all concerns of misconduct and/or abuse through these channels, but we would ask that, under the right circumstances, our families consider initially talking to a trusted individual at CSC if you feel that our programs, coaches, or facilities are not meeting your expectations for standards of conduct. First, we need to know and understand. If warranted we will take all necessary steps that allow us to maintain open, honest, and safe training and competitive environments for all our team athletes and families.
      • To educate yourself and support your athlete, we recommend the following:
      • For situations you have addressed directly with us and not resolved OR situations for which you do not feel you can or should work with us, please use the official channels:

    Jr. Coaching

CSC has a Jr. Coaching program for athletes ages 10-15. Participants are assigned preschool and/or recreational classes and support organization, instruction, and positive feedback under the direction of the primary coach. We will gladly sign off on Jr. Coaching as community service hours. And, we often do end up hiring our Jr. Coaches!

Contact your gym’s office to learn more.

    Now Hiring: CSC Instructors

We are always looking for great coaches. Knowing the sport, the terminology, and the environment give you a leg up! Apply through our jobs page (but tell your coach so they know and can put in a good word for you).

  • Collegiate Gymnastics

Post-high school gymnasts may have an opportunity to join a collegiate club team or NCAA Division I, II, or III program (Here’s a list of current men’s teams / women’s teams).

Did you know? CSC athletes have continued their gymnastics careers at these universities.

  • College Recruiting 101

Learn about the team(s) at the schools you are considering. What NCAA Division team does the school offer? Division I? Division II? Division III? Club? Do you believe you are on track to meet the level of gymnastics they compete? Is a scholarship something you need? Have you talked to your parents and coaches about your long term goals and where you see yourself after high school? The questions are more important than the answers as you get started!

Follow the team(s) you are interested in on social media, and get a feel for what the experience of being on that team might be like as an athlete. Find team websites to read about the coaches, and athletes, and what they say about themselves and their program and school.

When it comes to recruiting, the higher the Division, the more competitive it becomes to get seen and earn a spot on a team. College coaches can’t reach out to you through most of high school, but you can reach out to them to express interest. Get started with introducing yourself as early as your freshman year in high school, and certainly during your sophomore and junior years.

Let your CSC Coach(es) and CSC Team Director know the schools you are considering, as soon as you have an idea. CSC has, in many cases, direct lines of contact with individuals associated with the school – coaches, administrators, athletes, and alumni. A word of support through CSC can help bring attention to your interest.

Let college coaches know what you believe you can bring to their school and program (talent, skills, effort, brains, leadership, etc.). Of course you want to do gymnastics at the next level because of what it will provide YOU – but getting a shot requires them seeing you as an asset to them.

By the start of your senior year, you’ve got to be seriously ready to communicate back and forth with schools (because they can now reach out to you – and other athletes they are recruiting!). You’ll also be started with submitting applications to schools in the fall, and the gymnastics contacts you have established can assist and/or support the process of getting admitted to the school.
