Students must know how to float on their front and back independently, blow bubbles, and submerge their head. They also must be able to glide from the wall to the instructor with their face in the water. Students will learn to swim 7 yards of freestyle with correct form and side breathing, as well as 7 yards of backstroke with correct form.

Students will increase their distance in freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke to 100 yards. Butterfly stroke is introduced. Technique will be emphasized.

Open Recreational Swim

We offer Open Recreational Swims on Saturday & Sundays in May and then mid-Aug/Sept and DAILY during the summer. $4 for Sunnyvale residents / $5 non-residents. For full pricing info and dates CLICK HERE

Pre-Competitive

This class is for swimmers who have completed our Shark level and are looking to improve their swimming skills and prepare to swim on a competitive team. Swimmers will learn interval training for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, as well as become skilled at racing starts and turns.

Students must be able to swim 300-400 yards continuously, know correct form for all 4 competitive strokes, and be able to flip turn.

Water Polo Classes

Wish you had ANOTHER reason to be in the pool? Co-ed recreational Water Polo classes introduce and develop team concepts and skills to youth ages 9+ years old and provides opportunities to make new friends, too. The staff is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of water polo, the rules of the sport, and fun, social games.

INTRODUCING Otter Ball – Water Polo for ages 6-9!     

Saturday 11:15am-12:00pm. Starts our Spring 2 session!

CSC is excited to offer a new class for younger students! Students learn swimming and polo skills. We teach this class in 4’ to 7’ of water. Students must be able to swim 25 yards & tread water for 2 minutes.

Springboard Diving

Springboard diving classes are offer for youth ages 5-16. Classes include springboard fundamentals, approach, hurdle and forward and back dives. Classes run Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Adult Lap Swim

Adults and high school students 16 years and older with a school ID* are welcome to participate in our adult lap swim. The pool may be shared with other programs.

* Students must either be from a FUHSD school or be a Sunnyvale resident

Note: All lap swimmers must demonstrate proficiency in the pool. Pool may be shared with other programs during lap swim. When possible we will provide “long course” training throughout the summer and on some weekends during other times of the year. Watch for postings of these changes and plan on more ‘sharing’ of the lanes as this occurs.

Water Fitness

Water Fitness is an in-depth water aerobics class for adults of all ages focusing on cardio, flexibility, endurance, abdominal strengthening, and achieving – then maintaining – overall total body fitness.

We are an official national training center for Water Fitness Instructors by the United States Water Fitness Association (USWFA).

There is NO online registration for Water Fitness classes. This is a drop in program. Monthly passes can be purchased. Please call us at (408) 732-2257, or drop by the pool.

Some exercise equipment is provided, but students should bring their own flotation belts. A small number of belts are available if you would like to try out the class.

Masters Swim

Workouts are offered in lanes that are separate from our regular lap swim space. Masters swimmers registered with the team can take advantage of the numerous lap swimming hours offered throughout the week and weekends.

Our excellent CSC Masters-Sunnyvale program offers coached workouts designed to improve technique, endurance and aerobic conditioning. The team includes a wide variety of swimmers and multi-sport athletes. Members participate in socials, competitions, open water swims and more. Competition is not required.

Tri Program / Coached Workouts

Our “Tri” or Coached Workouts Program at the Sunnyvale Swim Complex is a designed for swimmers and multi-sport athletes looking to improve their skills. Swimmers are coached on interval training, drills for strokes, basic workout skills, etiquette and equipment use. Swimmers should be able to swim 200 yards of continuous freestyle and be comfortable swimming in the deep end of the pool.

Swim Stroke Clinics are a great way to fine tune your technique so you can get the most from your swim workout!  As a Level 3 Masters Swimming Coach, Sue has over 30 years of experience swimming, coaching/swimming masters, and teaching others how to maximize their swim potential.  Each class will focus on one specific stroke.  That stroke will be built up from the aquatic posture/body position, adding elements until it is complete.

Pre-requisites: Participants should be able to swim four lengths of the pool, display an intermediate level of swimming skill for freestyle, and have the stamina to swim for a total of 30 minutes.

Lifeguard Training

Most facilities offering lifeguarding courses will certify participants in lifeguarding, CPR/AED.  However, California Sports Center courses provide many of the optional parts of a lifeguarding class that ARE NOT OFFERED ELSEWHERE!

This course is designed for individuals who want to lifeguard in a pool setting. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course. The course includes a swimming pre-test* the first day of class, rescue skills for shallow and deep water, spinal injury management skills, CPR skills, AED skills, first aid skills, use of epi-pens and asthma inhalers, bloodborne pathogens and written and in-water skills tests. Participants should be prepared to enter the water at every class. Bring a writing instrument, swim suit, towel, food/beverage, and picture proof of age (passport, driver’s license, permit, etc.).

Participants who successfully complete the course will certify in all of these:

  • Lifeguarding
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider
  • First Aid
  • Epinephrine Auto Injector
  • Asthma Inhaler
  • Bloodborne Pathogens

All courses must be attended in full. Registration can be done on-line or in person and must be completed 3 days prior to start of class. There is a minimum requirement of 6 participants per course. If a class does not fill, students have the option of being transferred to another class or receiving a full refund. All courses are American Red Cross.

*Pre-test: 300yd swim (mix of front crawl and breaststroke) not timed, and do a 20yd swim, retrieve a 10lb brick at a 7-10 feet depth, return to the starting point with the brick and exit the pool without any aid within 1 minute and 40 seconds, and tread water for 2 minutes using legs only. All participants must be able to pass the pre-test to continue the course.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Course

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is a Red Cross certification for swimming and diving instructors.

The purpose of the course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use course materials, how to conduct training sessions, and how to evaluate participants’ progress.

Safety Training for Swim Coaches

Safety Training for Swim Coaches is a required certification for all USA swimming, YMCA & CCS coaches.

The Safety Training for Swim Coaches course teaches about safety in and around pools.  Participants must complete about 3 hours of ONLINE work concluding with a 50 question multiple choice test PRIOR TO THEIR SKILLS SESSION.  The online course content can be accessed by CLICKING HERE, and instructions for accessing the online material can be found by CLICKING HERE.

IN-PERSON SKILLS SESSION covers stabilization for spinal and non-spinal injury victims in the water as well as some basic water rescue skills. To see what is covered in the skills session CLICK HERE to see a course outline.

All participants must come prepared to get in the pool with a swim suit, goggles, cap & towel.

CPR/AED

This course is designed to teach health care providers, lifeguards and professional rescuers the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest.

All courses must be attended in full.  Registration can be done on-line or in person and must be completed 3 days prior to start of class. There is a minimum requirement of 6 participants per course.  If a class does not fill, students have the option of being transferred to another class or receiving a full refund.  All courses are American Heart Association.
